In 2020 the "Free ESC" took place at the same time as the canceled original ESC. This year ProSieben is holding the competition ahead of the competition.

In 2020 ProSieben announced a second edition of the "Free European Song Contest" by show inventor Stefan Raab (54, "TV total") for this year. The date of the event has now been set: May 15th. The Munich private broadcaster is thus ahead of the public service competition that shows the final of the Eurovision Song Contest exactly one week later.

The "Free ESC", which was launched in 2020 as an alternative to the traditional ESC due to the Corona, is to unite "musical Europe" from 8:15 pm and celebrate "international artists", as ProSieben announced in a press release. Contrary to previous media reports, Stefan Raab will also be on board as a producer in 2021.

Last year, the free European song competition "showed how much Stefan Raab, ProSieben and our audience love good music and a good show," said broadcaster director Daniel Rosemann. We are therefore looking forward to "the next musical holiday – made by Stefan Raab" in 2021 as well.

Stefan Raab promises top-class show participants

The former ProSieben draft horse himself once again promised the viewers top-class competition participants and drew a positive summary of the premiere edition of "Free ESC". "With Nico Santos, an outstanding musician won the #FreeESC in the first year," explained Raab. For Germany, "Helge Schneider was a real legend at the start". However, the Cologne entertainer did not name specific names of participating artists.

The "Free ESC" produced by Raab TV will run live on ProSieben and Joyn on Saturday (May 15) from 8:15 pm. The traditional grand finale of the Eurovision Song Contest, which will take place in the Ahoy Arena in Rotterdam, will flicker across the screens on Saturday (May 22nd) in the first. For Germany in 2021, the 26-year-old Jendrik Sigwart will compete with the title "I Don't Feel Hate".
