In September 2020, free education will be tested with secondary school pupils and students, women prisoners, precarious and homeless women announces Marlène Schiappa.
Menstrual precariousness affects thousands of people in France. Petitions from activists have raised awareness of the subject, such as that of Axelle de Sousa, still underway on Change.
Many people face the dilemma of buying protective gear or food each month. A parliamentary report had been tabled on this subject, to take account of this public health problem.
The report also touched on other strong issues: education on rules and the lifting of the taboo on this subject, as well as more transparency on the composition of products.
The editorial staff of aufeminin chose to speak on this subject in a forum, which takes up three measures, asking that they be applied.
We demand free access to hygienic protections in public places, the gratuitousness of these protections for precarious people and finally transparency on the components used in the manufacture of intimate protections. This forum is in line with the announcements made by the government.
An experiment in association with associations
On May 28, 2020, World Menstrual Hygiene Day, Marlène Schiappa is making a strong announcement: as of September 2020, the provision of free hygienic protection will be tested with secondary school students and female students, women prisoners, precarious and homeless women. Protections will also be made available in social grocery stores, day shelters, homes and accommodation centers.
The government has budgeted a million euros to carry out this experiment, which will lay the foundations for the implementation of these measures on a larger scale.
This will be done in partnership with expert associations on this subject, such as Elementary Rules which benefits from an endowment of 60,000 euros to support the collections and distribution of hygiene products, raise awareness, inform and train social workers and volunteers and intervene. with women in precarious situations.
See you in September to follow the implementation of this experiment.
