An offer reserved for Free customers… and financed by advertising

A seemingly attractive offer, given the plethora of SVOD platforms that demand monthly or annual payment, but comes with two prerequisites. First, you must have a Freebox subscription. Then, you have to agree to watch advertising inserts at the start of viewing, and during the broadcast of the program.

This kind of offer is called AVOD, an acronym for advertising video on demand. This is a formula whose financing is based partially or totally on the presentation of advertisements. In the case of Oqee Ciné, an advertisement is shown at launch and others are spread over the program (yellow lines on the progress bar indicate their position).

Oqee Ciné is the extension of the Oqee service, the first steps of which date back to 2020. It allows it to be beefed up by extending the offer to cinema and series, in addition to access to television, without affecting the price of the basic offer nor by charging for access to this content. Like other VOD services, the Oqee Ciné catalog will evolve over time.

In short, the experience offered by Oqee Ciné is similar to what we see on television, with advertising breaks during a film, but also before, but also on YouTube. This kind of model financed by advertising can also exist in a paid SVOD offer: this is typically what Netflix offers with its “Essential with ads” proposal.

In the case of the American giant of video on demand by subscription, you have to pay 5.99 euros per month (i.e. 3 euros less than the most economical offer) to have the right to catalog access for a single screen. , with limited quality (720p). As for the commercial on Netflix, it lasts between 15 and 30 seconds at the start of the video, and 4 to 5 minutes per hour.

For Oqee Ciné, the dedicated application allows access to the catalog on Android (smartphone, tablet, Android TV), on the Apple ecosystem (iOS, iPadOS, AppleTV), but not on Samsung TVs or via the web browser. On the Freebox TV player side, the Pop, Devialet and Revolution players are supported. The mini 4K player and the Crystal / V5 player are excluded.
