Free laundry detergent: How to wash your clothes with chestnuts

It takes some effort, time and planning to make it – almost before every wash. According to Nabu, the chestnut detergent should be used up within two days, otherwise it smells unpleasant.

In addition, the chestnuts can only be used fresh in autumn, otherwise they will dry out or even go moldy. But there is a solution for this: preserve the chestnuts.

Crush the brown balls again. For large quantities, simply wrap the fruit in a cloth and work it with a hammer, it’s faster than using a knife individually.

Spread the pieces out on a cloth or tray and let them dry in the sun on warm days. Alternatively, place in the oven at around 40 degrees for two to three hours. If you want to save energy, you can use the residual heat after baking, for example. However, according to Nabu, you should make sure that the chestnut pieces can dry completely. Otherwise they go moldy.
