Free Mobile announced on its website that its VoLTE will now be compatible with all smartphones launched in 2022.

Last September, Free Mobile finally announced the arrival of a function particularly awaited by users: support for VoLTE on its mobile network. Concretely, this function now allows Free subscribers to make their voice calls via the 4G network and not via the 2G or 3G frequency bands.
This novelty has several advantages for subscribers, since it allows you to enjoy better quality sound and calls connect faster than before. However, a size limit still conditioned the use of VoLTE on the Free Mobile network: the smartphone still had to be compatible with this feature.
As reported by the UniversFreebox site, this is now the case. The mobile operator announced on Friday that “all terminals released in France since January 1, 2022 support VoLTE Free automatically”. Free Mobile subscribers acquiring a smartphone released this year will therefore not have to ask themselves whether it will indeed be compatible with VoLTE on their operator’s network. In addition, Free offers, on its website, a list of all the smartphones already compatible with VoLTE on its mobile network, as well as the schedule for deploying the functionality on devices that will be compatible later.
VoLTE available on 5G and Pro plans
Remember, however, that VoLTE is only offered by Free Mobile on the Free 5G and Free Pro plans, but not with the 2-euro plans or with the Serie Free plans.
This compatibility is timely for Free Mobile subscribers, especially for those who plan to travel to the United States. We learned, a few days ago, that American operators were going to end their 2G and 3G networks. Therefore, it will necessarily go through VoLTE to make a voice call from the United States and therefore a smartphone compatible with this feature. As a reminder, Free Mobile is a partner of the AT&T network across the Atlantic. However, the American operator precisely closes its 3G network as of this month of February.
