Free Mobile publishes a provisional location map for its 4G/4G+ antennas

Free Mobile has posted a page dedicated to customers who want to know when an antenna will be installed in their area. They can consult a map or download an Excel file.

Free Mobile is the cheapest mobile internet provider per gigabyte. This undoubtedly explains its commercial success. However, not everyone enjoys the same quality of connection. If you are a Free Mobile customer and you feel that your network coverage is too poor, it means that you live far from a company antenna. You should take a look at Xavier Niel’s FAI site presenting a Free mobile network forecast coverage map in France. It was established last year and corresponds to the antenna installation projects planned for the last quarter of 2021.

Free Mobile’s “Provisional coverage” site indicates the antenna deployments planned in the next three months, but also allows you to view the area covered in 4G/4G+ by the operator. It should be noted that the company does not yet offer a map of the location of 5G antennas. This technology is currently only present in large cities, because a colossal number of 5G antennas are needed to deploy the network in France. We bet that this filter will appear in 2023 on the Free site, and that 5G will be a little more commonplace by then.

The most observant Internet users will note that this map is the exact copy of that of the current network coverage. The latter is much more precise, since 5G coverage is visible there, on several frequency bands moreover (3.5 GHz and 700 MHz). By comparison, the forecast map is much more basic and merely offers a visualization of 4G and 4G+ coverage.

If you live in an area that is poorly covered by the Free network, be careful when consulting this forecast map. The operator takes care, in small letters, to specify: “it is possible that the commissioning of these sites may take place after the quarter in question or may not take place, due to the vagaries associated with the deployment of mobile networks”. Free therefore reminds that he has no legal obligation to install the antennas even if they are on the forecast map.
