For the past few months, operators have been making sure to integrate Wi-Fi 6E on their latest boxes. Bouygues Telecom was the first to do so in France with its Bbox Ultym, and Orange then followed with the Livebox Wi-Fi 6E.

In June 2022, Free decided to catch up with the competition by offering support for Wi-Fi 6E on Freebox Delta for new users. For the others, it will have been necessary to wait until August 2022 to be able to migrate to the Freebox Delta Wi-Fi 6E offer.

However, the French operator has just announced the arrival of Wi-Fi 6 on its Freebox Pop this October 6, 2022. Be careful however, only new subscribers will be able to take advantage of it. As in the case of the Freebox Delta, current customers will have to wait a bit before being able to migrate to this new version of the Freebox.

Wi-Fi 6 arrives on Freebox Pop

According to the company led by Xavier Niel, the integration of Wi-Fi 6E is “the consecration of several months of internal work supported by the R&D teams in partnership with the manufacturers of microprocessors”.

Thus, the operator specifies that the Freebox Pop offers a Stable and powerful Wi-Fi 6with downlink rates over 1 Gbps obtained thanks to better modulation and the use of twice as much spectrum (160 MHz).

This Wi-Fi 6 also responds to market developments. In recent years, this standard has become widespread, in the first half of 2022, 70% of sales of mobiles with Free Flex concern Smartphones with Wi-Fi 6 and all the latest Apple and Samsung innovations integrate Wi-Fi 6/6E”, ensures the operator.

Note that the arrival of Wi-Fi 6 is not accompanied by a price increase. The price of the Freebox Pop offer remains the same, i.e. €29.99 per month for the first year, then thereafter €39.99 per month. Remember that Free has just changed the Booster option of the package to €2. This option made it possible to obtain 1 GB of additional mobile data as well as unlimited calls. However, interested customers had to pay a €10 activation fee. Faced with the anger of users, Free has decided to abolish these activation fees… But in return, the data envelope has been reduced, going to 600 MB instead of 1 GB.
