Freebox: an event by Xavier Niel on September 18, but for what occasion?

After the Freebox Ultra or the new options Booster of the €2 mobile plan, Free plans to make its big comeback in September 2024. In fact, residents of the Paris region have discovered an intriguing poster in the streets of the French capital where we can read that Xavier Niel will be at The Olympia next September 18th.

To the question “what is this again?” asked by a user who shared the poster on Twitter/X, the CEO of Free humorously responded: “A rap contenders with SFR”. It therefore seems that the company is ready to do battle with the competition, although we do not know in which area.

By going to the event page via the website of The Olympiawe can see that the ticket office for the event will open this Wednesday, September 18 at 12 noon. Note, a little nod to the Free Mobile and Freebox prices is included for the ticket prices: from €2 to €39.99.

An image with a simple “comment” subjected to two unknown words, a first of seven letters (perhaps Freebox?) and a second of 12 letters, is part of it.

Add to that the fact that September 18, 2024 marks the 22nd anniversary of the first Freebox, and the event seems more than tailor-made to talk about internet boxes. The question is therefore whether all this will be to announce something new or to celebrate something old.

Univers Freebox also recalled that Free had offered its subscribers 4,000 concert tickets for the Free Rock Party at Bercy on October 2, 2009 to celebrate its 10th anniversary. The opportunity for them to enjoy a show with several stars, including Gad Elmaleh, Cali, Louis Bertignac and Stéphane Eicher.

Knowing that Free’s 25th anniversary takes place on October 9, we can therefore think of a two-in-one celebration, for the anniversary of the first Freebox and that of the company.

Now we just need to know the end of the story, which could be shared tomorrow when pre-orders open or in the days and weeks to come, or even kept secret until the big day.
