FreeBuds Pro 2: Huawei teams up with Devialet for its new active noise reduction headphones

Between Huawei and Devialet, the honeymoon continues. After a few failed attempts in the field of speakers (Sound X and Sound Joy…), the two brands have teamed up to design the FreeBuds Pro 2, the new pair of true wireless headphones with active noise reduction from Huawei. Such a collaboration might seem strange, since Devialet has its own true wireless earphones, the Gemini, perfect competitors to the FreeBuds Pro 2. But the two brands want to be reassuring and affirm that the target audience would not be the same: more music-loving and sedentary. for the Gemini, in search of versatility and connected for the FreeBuds Pro 2.

The FreeBuds Pro 2 are largely inspired by their predecessors in terms of design. The new earphones are however a little lighter (5.9 g against 6.1 g per earphone) and compact, enough to slightly improve the already exceptional feelings of comfort provided by the first FreeBuds Pro.

The big novelty of these FreeBuds Pro 2 is to be found on the side of the integrated acoustic architecture. This consists of an 11 mm dynamic driver, to provide power in the bass, and a planar driver to provide better extension in the treble and increased precision in the high frequencies. . The FreeBuds Pro 2 are also packed with adaptive equalization features that take into account individual morphology, outside noise and listening volume. They are compatible with Bluetooth codecs SBC, AAC but also LDAC and HWA, which allows them to win the Hi-Res Wireless medal. A multipoint Bluetooth function is also on the program.

This dual-speaker architecture and all these sound treatments unfortunately affect the autonomy, announced between 4 h and 6 h 30 min depending on whether or not active noise reduction is activated. The case provides between four and five additional charges and is itself rechargeable by induction.

If Huawei was responsible for the design of the headphones, it was Devialet who had the mission of providing a sound signature in accordance with the specifications of the firm with the red petals. It remains to be seen whether the leg of the French engineers will be felt when listening. In any case, the two brands are full of praise for these FreeBuds Pro 2, promising a rich, dynamic and particularly precise sound. Promises that we will not fail to put to the test in our test to be published at the end of the week.

Huawei also claims to have significantly improved the performance of active noise reduction, which here would be able to reach 47 dB of attenuation! To do this, the FreeBuds Pro 2 have three microphones, one more than the previous generation. Four reduction modes are on the program, including one that automatically adapts the power of the reduction according to the surrounding noise. Voice pick-up has also been improved thanks to a wind noise cancellation system and an integrated bone sensor.

Available in white, silver or silver blue, the FreeBuds Pro 2 are released on June 29, 2022 at a price of €219. As usual, Huawei offers an introductory offer at 199 €.
