Parasite control for clothing and stuffed animals
Clothing, stuffed animals and other textile products, such as blankets and sheets, can also be placed in the freezer compartment. This trick can help with pest infestations, such as house dust mites or clothes moths.
All you have to do is put the fabric product in a plastic bag for at least 24 hours for mites or 3 days for moths and freeze it in the freezer at around -18 degrees Celsius.
If possible, wash the textiles in the washing machine afterwards. The parasites and their eggs are completely killed by the cold and the remains are removed from clothing and the like.
You can usually recognize contact with house dust mites by allergic symptoms such as itching and sneezing, blocked noses or reddened eyes. Moth infestation is noticeable through small, irregular holes in textiles.
