We show step by step how you can freeze currants so that you can still enjoy the delicious fruits after the season.

Step 1: choose the right currants

When choosing currants, you should make sure that they are ripe but not yet mushy. The berries should have no pressure marks or be wrinkled. It doesn't matter whether you want to freeze red, white or black currants.

Step 2: wash currants

In the next step, the berries should be washed off thoroughly under running water. Use a gentle water jet for that, because the berries are very delicate and burst easily. Then you can drain them and let them dry well, for example by placing them on kitchen paper and dabbing them with a cloth.

Step 3: unstitch currants

Currants are in season from early June to late August. Because the berries are so sensitive to pressure, they should be eaten as soon as possible after picking. When refrigerated, they can only be kept for about two to three days.
