To remember
The match Deadpool and Wolverine vs The Count of Monte Cristo continues! Once again at the top of the French box office, the two films each reached a new milestone: 2 million for Deadpool x Wolverine, and 6 million for The Count of Monte Cristo.
This new Deadpool installment should logically pass the final score of the previous opus (2,600,250 spectators), and perhaps even catch up with the very first (3,763,671) if it takes advantage of the little competition facing it between now and the end of the summer.
18.7 million moviegoers: thanks to The Count of Monte Cristo, A Little Something Extra and Inside Out 2, July breaks a record!
The Count of Monte Cristo confirms that it is the other great popular French success of the summer, with A little something extra. The film with Pierre Niney has exceeded 6 million admissions, and the success should continue. Its final score should be higher than the two episodes of The Three Musketeers combined.
It should be noted that Monte Cristo also achieved a very good score abroad, as reported by The French FilmIt has already had 297,569 admissions (and a box office of €3,053,018), notably in Belgium, Luxembourg, French-speaking Switzerland and in many French-speaking African countries.
How is the new Shyamalan starting?
M. Night Shymalan’s new film is third and over 300,000 admissions for its first week, which is higher than his previous feature Knock At The Cabin or Old, but lower than the “hits” of his career such as The Sixth Sense for example (over 1.4 million admissions, carried by Bruce Willis). It is also lower than Split and Glass.
A summer conducive to entertainment
The 4th, 5th and 6th places are taken by animation, in this case two of the big hits of this summer 2024 (4 – Despicable Me 4, cumulative to 3.5 M, and above all Inside Out 2cumulative at 7.7 M, and finally Garfield – Hero in Reluctance and a cumulative total of over 440,000 entries in the 2nd week.
The latest Pixar should soon topple Ratatouille’s score (7,860,899 tickets sold) to become the studio’s second biggest success in France. But it will be difficult for it to dethrone Finding Nemo, which can happily live on with its 9,439,076 spectators.
Borderlands off to a rocky start
A mixed start for Borderlands which has to be content with 7th position and 154,322 admissions. This new release, seeking to follow in the footsteps of a Fifth Element or a Guardians of the Galaxy, is struggling to rally. A somewhat timid start also for Super dad (145,160 admissions), the new film led by Ahmed Sylla. The film’s score is in line with Like a Prince, already led by Ahmed Sylla.
A little something extra on the verge of 10 million entries!
What about A Little Something Extra? It is now 9th in the ranking and should soon cross the 10 million admissions mark! If we take into account the “all time” Top since the box office has been measured in France, A Little Something Extra is 34th. It should soon overtake Les Misérables (9,968,993 admissions), and find itself just behind The Lion King 2019 version (10,041,565 admissions) and The War of the Buttons (10,035,711 admissions).
If we focus on French comedies, the film even enters the top 10 of French comedies, between Les Bronzés 3 (10,229,483 admissions) and Le Diner de cons (9,248,548 admissions). The DVD release of the film is scheduled for September, the number of admissions recorded at the cinema should logically decrease, and the cinemas should leave more and more places for the new releases of the fall, after a quieter summer in terms of releases, notably because of the Paris games.
