The service of online storage hubiC will definitely close its doors. It gives way to Shadow Drive.

As announced on social networks, hubiC will close its doors. A date has been announced: September 30, 2022. From there, the cloud service will be replaced by Shadow, a company acquired by Octave Klaba last year.

What are the consequences for users?

hubiC becomes Shadow, a cloud solution that aims to be secure, affordable and accessible “, created in partnership with the world leader in open source storage platforms Nextcloud. As a reminder, Shadow was bought last year by Octave Klaba, the founder of the hosting company OVH.

Today, Shadow aims to compete with cloud offerings from Google and Microsoft in the professional and SME market. If the hubiC team ensures that Shadow Drive retains its ” values of sovereignty, performance and accessibility », changes are to be expected for users.

Those who have a hubiC account only have a few days left to recover their files. Without action on their part, they will be automatically and permanently deleted. In other words, there will be no transfer of content from hubiC to the new Shadow service.

What does Shadow Drive offer?

Shadow Drive is a free service with up to 20 GB of storage. It allows users to easily store, sync and share their data. These will be accessible via a web interface, but also through desktop and mobile clients.

The service is also secure, thanks to the encryption of communications. The data will be hosted on servers operated in Europe by a European company with numerous certifications », most likely OVH.

A premium account is offered for a subscription of 8.99 euros per month, which allows you to benefit from 2 TB of storage. Those who choose the premium option will also be able to migrate their data in a few clicks up to 25 September, provided files are no larger than 2TB. Manual transfer is required for other users.
