French cross-country skier Jimmy Gressier breaks European 5km record in Monaco

The 25-year-old athlete Jimmy Gressier broke the European 5 km record this Sunday in Monaco. The member of the Boulogne-sur-Mer club won in 13’12, twelve seconds ahead of South Sudanese Dominic Lobalu and twenty over Ugandan Oscar Chelimo. He thus erases tablets for two seconds the Italian Yemaneberhan Crippa.

French cross-country skier Jimmy Gressier seized the European 5 km road record with a time of 13 min 12 sec achieved in Monaco on Sunday. Gressier (25) improved by two seconds the time of the Italian Yemaneberhan Crippa (13:14 in 2022) in a discipline where the world record and continental records have been recognized for a few years.

The Frenchman largely won the “Monaco Run” in front of a strong opposition: the South Sudanese Dominic Lobalu, 2022 revelation of the world fund, is 2nd at 12 seconds; Ugandan 5,000m world bronze medalist Oscar Chelimo is 3rd at 20 seconds; and German European marathon champion Richard Ringer is 4th at 20 seconds as well.

The world record is held by Ethiopian Berihu Aregawi (12:49 in 2021).
