French Days – The PNY CS900 240 GB SSD at €19.99 (-17%)

PNY’s CS900 series of SSDs are among the cheapest on the market, with a 240GB version often priced under $30. These SSDs also offer surprisingly good performance.

The 240GB PNY CS900 SSD is a great surprise. It’s not the best SSD on the market, but it still offers a consistent and satisfactory performance. With its floor price, it represents an interesting purchase for most uses.

Strong points

  • Reading rates.
  • Write speeds with active cache.
  • Cache that does not saturate during manual copies.

Weak points

  • Fairly weak cache: only 4 GB.
  • Random access set back from the best.
  • Out-of-cache write throughputs.

NB: The reported price drop is calculated by comparing the lowest price of the day with the average of the lowest prices charged by all merchants for the product last month, with security rules to exclude prices from shops whose the VAT policy is not clear (known as “grey” shops, typically in the case of imports from China).

Alternatively

Sold at a low price, the Kingston A400 240 GB is proof that you don’t have to break the bank to get an SSD with the correct performance. Admittedly, there are models with a much higher speed, but at prices that are sometimes doubled and for a gain in use that is often imperceptible. With its rather stable speeds, we are dealing here with a good quality/price ratio, whether for office use or for integration into a gaming machine.
