We now know that Paramount+ will be setting up shop in France in December 2022. A new platform that promises large investments in international fiction, and a price in the sector average.
Netflix, Prime Video, Disney + and the others just have to watch out: two new competitors will soon arrive on French soil. If HBO Max has not yet formalized the date of its inevitable launch in France – conditioned on the end of the agreement between HBO and OCS – we now know that Paramount + will be available from December 2022.
€7.99 monthly, but no 4K
As we explained to you a few weeks ago, this new platform will be launched in its name but also through the Canal+ Ciné Séries offer, alongside Netflix, Disney+ and OCS. It has just taken its first steps in Great Britain, where it has opted for a similar mode of distribution, this time in partnership with Sky.
Based on the rates charged across the Channel, we can already anticipate a subscription at €7.99 per month with us. The British media Broadband TV News says that this price will also be the one offered in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, where Paramount + should land in stride in December. We also expect restricted streams in Full HD and 5.1 sound at first; in any case, this is the trend that is emerging among our English neighbours. In the United States, Paramount+ subscribers can enjoy content in 4K and Dolby Atmos, in exchange for a more expensive price.
Hunted by the ghost of Marie-Antoinette
In terms of content, this new service should provide access to various and varied programs such as dexter, Spongebob, South Park, The Godfather, Transformers, Mission: Impossible, etc. His first big production is certainly Halo, broadcast on Canal+ until the opening of Paramount+ in France. But that’s not all.
In a press release, the brand in the mountains expanded on its ambitions in terms of international fiction. By 2025, it intends to order 150 original programs from all over the world. Among them, the firm has already given some information on Marie Antoinette Serial Killera French series mixing thriller and horror, where four American tourists find themselves hunted by a murderer who could well be the ghost of Marie-Antoinette. The Signal and Impact are two other French projects mentioned in the press release.
For the rest, the announcement concerns German, Italian, Mexican, Spanish and British programmes. Paramount+ will therefore be multicultural, or it will not be.
