Frenchman Benjamin Daviet, gold medalist in cross-country skiing

Benjamin Daviet, standard bearer for the French delegation at the opening ceremony of the Paralympic Games in Beijing, was adorned with gold on Wednesday March 9 in cross-country sprint skiing (standing category).

On the sunny slopes of the Zhangjiakou site, 180 kilometers north of the Chinese capital, the native of Annecy (Haute-Savoie) beat the German Marco Maier and the Ukrainian Grygorii Vovchynskyi.

Six medals for France

The burst of pride for the triple Paralympic champion in Pyeongchang, in 2018, who had so far failed to climb the podium in China. The 32-year-old sportsman had failed the day before at a disappointing 6and place in the medium distance biathlon, having already missed the medal by five seconds in the sprint in this discipline.

France now has six medals, including four gold, at the Paralympic Games, which places it in 4and nation ranking rank
