Fresh snow and strong sunshine attracted many winter sports enthusiasts to Carinthia’s ski areas on Epiphany. But for some, the day ended in the snow in the hospital.

A 22-year-old tried his hand at deep snow with his snowboard and drove in the Gerlitzen Alpe ski area away from the Birkenhof run towards the valley. “In the area of ​​support 8 of the Birkenhof lift, he fell and hit a tree stump,” said the police. After the first aid from other winter sports enthusiasts, the young man was brought from the forest to the valley station in the Akja and then flown to the Villach LKH by the Alpin 1 rescue helicopter. A 47-year-old Viennese who was on his snowboard on the Zweikofel run in the Nassfeld ski area fell. The ARA 3 helicopter delivered the man with a shoulder injury to the hospital in Spittal an der Drau. A twelve-year-old also suffered an injury in the shoulder area on Epiphany in the Hochrindl ski area. According to the police, the bush got stuck in the deep snow with his snowboard and therefore rolled over. He was brought to the LKH Villach by the rescue helicopter.
