The 31-year-old prisoner was found dead on November 15 by his fellow prisoner in his cell in the new arrivals section of the remand center, according to a prison source. He had arrived at the establishment three days earlier, on November 12.

According to the first elements of the investigation, he would have arrived at the penitentiary center in a worrying state after having ingested “a lot of drugs” and would have died of an overdose, indicates a source close to the file who specifies that doctors had examined him .

3 dead in Fresnes since January 2022

A judicial inquiry into the cause of death has been opened, the Créteil public prosecutor’s office confirmed on Thursday, requested by AFP, giving no further details on this death. At least two other detainees have died in Fresnes since the beginning of the year, including Théo, 28, found dead on January 11, naked, curled up on the ground in his cell strewn with rubbish and with the window open. He suffered from severe psychiatric disorders. In the case of Théo, a report by the General Inspectorate of Justice (IGJ), revealed at the end of January by the newspaper Marianne and consulted by AFP, had mentioned “a stack of shortcomings and failures”, causing a rapid deterioration of his health.
