The US Olympic champion improved her own old record over 400 m hurdles by 73 hundredths in the World Cup final in Eugene.

Olympic champion Sydney McLaughlin has won her first world title with a fabulous world record over the 400 meter hurdles. The 22-year-old was the first woman to run under 51 seconds in Eugene and improved her own world record, set just four weeks ago, by 73 hundredths – half a world trip.

“It’s unreal. All glory to God, he got me through this journey and thanks to my family and friends – it takes a whole village to get here,” said the 22-year-old, still sitting on the tartan track. It was the first world record at this World Cup.

Beautiful success market

McLaughlin has now clocked 5 of the 6 best times ever in the 400m hurdles. Apart from her, only Dalilah Muhammad (USA) ran the distance under 52 seconds last year. McLaughlin will receive a bonus of 70,000 dollars for her world championship gold and another 100,000 dollars for the world record.

Silver went to Femke Bol of the Netherlands in 52.27 seconds. Olympic silver medalist Muhammad took bronze (53.13).
