Friends reunion: filming of the special can finally take place

As the production company has now revealed, the shooting of the "Friends" reunion special can finally begin.

It is probably the most eagerly awaited reunion of a series broadcast: The stars from "Friends" (1994-2004) will celebrate a reunion for a special from the streaming service HBO Max. Lisa Kudrow (57, Phoebe), Jennifer Aniston (51, Rachel), Courteney Cox (56, Monica), Matthew Perry (50, Chandler), David Schwimmer (53, Ross) and Matt LeBlanc (53, Joey) are together look back on the success of the cult sitcom. A spokesman for the responsible production company Fulwell 73 has now announced in an interview with "Deadline" that filming of the special can finally begin.

Production should take place in the next two weeks, explains Leo Pearlman. Ben Winston will direct the film. Pearlman also confirms that the special will take place without a live audience. The production company assumes that shoots will have to get by without an audience by 2021 and with a small number of viewers from 2021. "Unless there is a vaccine by then," said Pearlman. The company is also responsible for the production of "The Late Late Show" with James Corden (41), which was last recorded in Cordens garage and is now set to move back into the studio.

Actors are more than ready

The shooting of the "Friends" special planned for April had to be postponed due to the corona pandemic. The former "Friends" actors, who according to the "Daily Mirror" were tested for Covid-19 before the shooting and then went into isolation, have spoken in interviews about the upcoming reunion in recent months.

To be back on set for the first time in ten years will be "a really meaningful experience", David Schwimmer told E! News. Jennifer Aniston and Lisa Kudrow had already expressed their joy about the special in an interview with "Variety" in front of their colleagues. "It's going to be really great. I can't wait. We don't know all about it, some things will come as a surprise to us," said Kudrow in June. "It's going to be really fun doing our reunion show if we ever get out of quarantine," added Aniston.
