Most of us have more than enough acquaintances, but real friends? They are rarer. Six sentences that you usually only get to hear from the latter.

Sorry, it sounds completely trite, but: There is nothing like real friends – it’s that easy! They are there for you when your heart has been broken, love you for who you are, understand you when nobody else does, and give you sooo many funny and beautiful moments. According to a study, a real friend is worth as much as 90,000 euros an annual salary for our satisfaction (you can find more information in our article “What is friendship?”). But how do we recognize real friends and how can we distinguish them from acquaintances? Among other things, because they say the following things to us – and of course mean that and act accordingly!

6 phrases that will help you recognize real friends

1. “I’m happy for you!”

Just about anyone can have compassion for anyone – but being genuinely happy for others usually requires deep benevolence and love. Honest sympathy is a very strong indicator of real friendship.

2. “I’m here for you.”

You can always rely on real friends: They keep you company and sit next to you in silence when you feel lonely but still don’t feel like chatting. They will distract you and go out to party with you when you need to and listen patiently when you need to get off your feet. Friends are just always there and don’t ask for anything in return. Because you alone are worth it to them.

3. “I see it differently.”

Of course, two different people cannot always agree – not even when they are friends. But that’s not a problem in a real friendship. Real friends trust you enough to contradict yourself and be open and honest with you. You enrich yourself through your different perspectives and get to know each other better and better.

4. “I’m glad you’re here.”

You are a real girlfriend or boyfriend you important. They see you as an asset in their life and celebrate that you exist. You give each other strength and energy and feel connected to one another – not obliged.

5. “You hurt me.”

Not even in a true friendship is there always only peace, joy, pancakes, sometimes we hurt each other. But instead of pretending to be invulnerable or turning away from you out of false vanity, real friends openly address injuries and give you the chance to make it up to you …

6. “I forgive you.”

… and if you take this chance, real friends will forgive you. After all, they don’t expect you to be perfect, they expect you to be you – even if that means you make mistakes.
