International Friendship Day is celebrated on July 30th. These apps help to make new contacts.

International Friendship Day on July 30th is the perfect opportunity to show your friends how much you love them. But especially when you get older, the circle of friends often begins to shrink. And if you move to a new city, you first have to make new acquaintances there. Making new friends is not easy for everyone – especially during the corona pandemic. Nowadays, however, apps can help. Here are four suggestions.

“Bumble BFF”

“Bumble” was initially only known as a dating app where women take the first step. But for a long time there is also a “BFF” function. The acronym “BFF” often stands for “Best friends forever”. Users can upload pictures of themselves and share their interests with the world. For example, they can show that they are looking for a training partner, for people to enjoy a movie night together and the like. If there is a match, the two seekers can text straight away.

Naomi Walkland, Bumble’s Vice President for Europe, said in a statement: “In the first three months of 2021, the average time spent on Bumble BFF increased by 44 percent for women and 83 percent for men worldwide . ” In Germany, during the corona pandemic, 35 percent of singles tried to make new friends online.

“Spontacts”

Especially people looking for all sorts of community activities in the vicinity of their own place of residence could participate “SpontactsCooking together, hiking, finding participants for a game evening or a group for outdoor yoga – there are no limits to the imagination. “Spontacts” sees itself as a large leisure community with – according to the creators – more than a million Users. Once you have found a group or a person for a desired activity, a new friendship can also develop in this way.

“Meetup”

The social media platform works in a similar way “Meetup”, for which there is of course also a corresponding app for Android and iOS. According to its own information, the portal has more than 55 million registered users in over 190 countries. In June alone, 370,000 people are said to have registered. Probably because of the pandemic, the word “friends” is now for the first time in first place in the search queries, as the platform recently announced. Before that, the term didn’t even make it into the top ten.

Facebook

who Facebook uses, can go there to search. There are numerous groups such as “New in Cologne” or “New in Berlin”, which are intended to make contacts and find participants for leisure activities. There are also private and public groups for numerous other cities as well as for a wide variety of areas of interest, including, for example, all kinds of hobbies but also for animal lovers. For example, why not look for a partner – and maybe a new friend too – to go for daily walks with your dog?
