The manufacturer AVM has released a new software update for many Fritz boxes and repeaters. This should enable faster and more stable connections. Initially, however, the installation of the new firmware is only recommended for experts.

The German manufacturer AVM has released a new laboratory update. It stands for the models Fritzbox 6591, 6660, 6890 LTE, 6690 Cable, 7530, 7590 (AX) as well as for the repeaters 2400 and 3000. As always, this lab update is not finished software. Unexpected errors and crashes may occur. The installation is therefore only recommended for experts.

With the new software FritzOS 7.39 the routers should be able to offer a faster and at the same time secure Internet connection. AVM has also introduced a few improvements for Smart Home and telephony. The manufacturer has not yet revealed in detail when the new firmware will finally be distributed. It should be out sometime in the fall.

Among other things, one is new WireGuard supportto simplify the establishment of VPN connections. In the mesh operating mode as a repeater, connections with several WLAN bands are now possible (source: AVM).

At the Repeater 3000 the improvements and innovations are even more extensive. AVM took care of the WLAN auto channel function, radar detection in the 5 GHz band and compatibility with various WLAN devices. They also want to have improved the general system stability.

FritzOS 7.39 can be installed as a laboratory version on the Fritz boxes and repeaters mentioned. To do this, the firmware must be on the AVM website downloaded and switched to the Fritzbox user interface. The file is then selected in the menu under “System / Update”. After the installation, the Fritzbox restarts.
