From 2023, your Vueling flights can be paid for in cryptocurrencies

The Spanish airline Vueling, a low-cost subsidiary of the airline group IAG (British Airways, Iberia), will soon accept payments in cryptocurrencies. For this, the airline has partnered with BitPay, one of the world’s largest providers in this type of settlement. The system will also be integrated with the Universal Air Travel Plan (UATP) solution, which is widely used in the air travel industry.

“Ticket prices will be displayed in euros and customers will be able to pay for their flight from over 100 wallets and choose between 13 different cryptocurrencies”, Vueling said in a statement. In the selection, we find great classics such as bitcoin (BTC), bitcoin cash (BCH), ethereum (ETH) and litecoin (LTC), but also more controversial cryptocurrencies such as shiba inu (SHIB) , or dogecoin (DOGE).

“With this agreement, Vueling once again reaffirms its position as a digital airlinecommented Jesús Monzó, Strategic Director at Vueling. We are very happy to have found in BitPay the best partner to offer our customers the possibility of carrying out transactions with cryptocurrencies with the greatest security and reliability.”

Vueling plans to offer this payment solution from the beginning of 2023. In the past, other airlines have tried this exercise. This is the case of AirBaltic, which has been offering payment in cryptocurrencies via BitPay for several years now. Emirates also intends to support bitcoin payment in the near future.
