From cats to bees: – Animal rights activists honored with awards

“Krone” animal expert Maggie Entenfellner and politicians honored courageous compatriots on Monday.

Just before World Animal Protection Day on October 4th, Lower Austria traditionally sets an example: the current animal protection prizes were awarded in the state parliament hall in St. Pölten. “Here people are brought to the fore who are committed to animal protection every day. In addition to our eight animal shelters across the country, it is primarily the small associations and private individuals who enable efficient animal protection in Lower Austria,” explained the responsible regional councilor Susanne Rosenkranz. It is clear that in addition to pets – always in tension with the economic benefit – farm animals also have to be protected. Big thanks to animal rights activists. The expert jury with the chairwoman, “Krone” animal expert Maggie Entenfellner, decided on the winners after long discussions: in 1st place The Katzfatz stray animal shelter ended up in Klein-Neusiedl. Kerstin König was happy about the prize money of 6,000 euros. Second place went to Erich Breiteneder, who converted his part of the Baden allotment garden association into an eco-park for bees and received prize money of 4,000 euros. Mareike Schnabl took third place (2000 euros) with her club “Save Cats! Yes we can.” Gottfried Waldhäusl, Second President of the State Parliament: “The Presidium of the State Parliament is proud that Lower Austria is at the forefront when it comes to animal protection.”
