From CD to streaming: radio jack-of-all-trades Teufel Musicstation

The Teufel Musicstation is the Swiss Army Knife among WLAN speakers. It is exactly the right device for users who still love their CDs, occasionally listen to analog radio, but also appreciate the advantages of Internet music.

Some people are not satisfied with simple WiFi speakers because the devices are too one-sided for them. You want to have a very modern device that knows how to use all possible Internet services, but can also play your good old CDs. Teufel builds the Musicstation for such users, which plays almost everything except records and cassettes.

Hangs and stands well

The Musicstation can be used as a luxury kitchen radio, but is also very good in living rooms and bedrooms. Ideally, the device should be mounted on a wall with the integrated bracket. Or you are set up so spacious that there is space for the 55.5 x 18.5 x 12 centimeter piece of music jewelery on a piece of furniture. Then it is best to pull the wall bracket out of the back, because the device then tilts back slightly and the front of the loudspeaker looks a little upwards.

What you get to hear then is pretty impressive. Because Teufel has equipped the Musicstation with six loudspeakers, which together bring it to 100 watts. Two broadband and two woofers each radiate towards the front, and the device has two more mid-range speakers on the sides. This is very reminiscent of a soundbar for the television and also has similar advantages and disadvantages.

The Musicstation thus develops a very effective stereo sound, especially if you activate Teufel's Dynamore effect, which gives the sound a considerably wider stage. As on the TV set, this only comes into its own if you are as centrally as possible in front of the loudspeaker. Otherwise, the stereo effect is lost, but the excellent sound is retained throughout the room.

Impressively clear sound

The Teufel Musicstation impresses with a very differentiated sound with accentuated mids, detailed highs and decent bass. It is particularly impressive how clear the sound is. Absolutely nothing mutters, every instrument, every voice is clearly audible. A real devil doesn't know distortion even at high volume and the music station can get very loud. It shows itself to be very versatile, it delivers a convincing performance in every style of music. If you are not entirely satisfied with the sound, the associated Teufel app offers the option of adjusting bass and treble.

When it comes to sources, users have a choice that is seldom found in a device. Teufel's music jack-of-all-trades swallows CDs with various file formats, receives both analogue and digital radio (Internet, DAB +), streams Spotify and Amazon Music, can be fed via USB or the home network, connects via Bluetooth 5.0 (aptX, AAC) and has a jack socket.

The operation is also versatile

Although the Musicstation is so versatile, it is very easy to set up and operate, and users have several options here too. On the one hand, the device has various touch buttons on the top for playback, source selection or settings. There is also a field with freely assignable station buttons and favorites as well as an on / off switch for the Dynamore effect.

As in the past with iPods, there is a steering wheel that controls the volume and maneuvers through menus. And the icing on the cake is a colored display in the center that shows, among other things, the time and alarm time or, when streaming, provides album covers and information about the song being played on a smartphone.

You can choose to use the stylish remote control with a metal housing or the Teufel app to control the music station. You can also set up Amazon Alexa in the app to use voice commands. To do this, you also need a compatible speaker with microphones and set up a connection service. But that is done quickly and is not noticeable later.

Not cheap, but worth the price

The Teufel Musicstation is an all-round successful all-rounder for everyone who does not want to commit to one music source. Its sound is excellent and it has enough power and body to play the solo entertainer even in larger rooms. In addition, it is easy to use, has a stylish design and high-quality workmanship. The fun costs 500 euros, but in this quality it is worth the price.
