Former cross-country skier Lydia Hiernickel trains tirelessly for a successful transition to the Biathlon World Cup.

Lydia Hiernickel will continue to strap the narrow cross-country skis under her feet in the future, but from the coming season she will also be running with a rifle on her back – in order to soon gain a foothold in the Biathlon World Cup.

Your good running skills will be important for this, but not enough for the successful organization of competitions at the highest level. Hiernickel knows that she has to start again from scratch to change sports: “I need tens of thousands of repetitions just to automate this sequence of movements just by removing the rifle from my back.”

She wants to develop this routine with up to 4 training sessions a day. Routine in order to gradually get closer to her big dream: “The 2023 European Championships in Lenzerheide are my big goal,” says the woman from Glarus.

Where does Hiernickel’s fascination for this exciting winter sport come from? And which athlete has already successfully made the switch from cross-country skiing to biathlon? Find out in the audio post above.
