Valyria from “Game of Thrones” and “House of the Dragon” has a rich and tragic history. The Valyrian Peninsula on the southern coast of Essos was the center of the extinct Valyrian Free State. What was once a glorious empire was largely destroyed by the “fall of Valyria”, turning everything into a barren wasteland.

The only major family to survive was House Targaryen. They were able to get to safety on Drachenstein and thus not only received their family name, but also the dragons. From then on, this event was regarded as a frightening warning to the people. They couldn’t establish the Free State of Valyria in a day, but it could be destroyed in a day.
