Fantasy legend George RR Martin wrote “A Song of Ice and Fire”, the literary template for the epic mega-series “Game of Thrones” and also wrote a few selected episode screenplays for the HBO fantasy hit.

1: “Sandkings”: Netflix film from the “Pirates of the Caribbean” director

“Pirates of the Caribbean” director Gore Verbinski will join the Netflix streaming service George RR Martin’s short story “Sandkings” from 1979 as a film, “Utopia” creator Dennis Kelly is responsible for the screenplay.

The Sand Kings are mysterious insect-like creaturesthat a rich playboy keeps in a terrarium. They are divided into 4 peoples, each with a kind of queen, who fight with each other from time to time. After some time, the Sandkings break out of their terrarium…

George RR Martin warns in his blog entry that “Sandkings” is currently still in development and will not be implemented with 100% certainty. Should that happen, however, then, according to Martin, the film will in 1-3 years on Netflix land.

2: “In The Lost Lands”: The “Resident Evil” dream team reunited

Resident Evil director Paul WS Anderson will bring George RR Martin’s short story In The Lost Lands, published in 2003, to big screens. Anderson’s wife and “Resident Evil” star take on the leading roles in the exciting film project Milla Jovovich and Marvel heavyweight Dave Bautista (“Guardians of the Galaxy”).

“In The Lost Lands” tells the story of the powerful sorceress Gray Alys (Jovovich) and the drifter Boyce (Bautista), who together in the Wilderness of the ‘Lost Lands’ fighting demons and other evil.

As George RR Martin writes, “In The Lost Lands” had been in development for 6 years. Now, however, the film adaptation seems to actually come with a very high probability.

3: “The Ice Dragon”: An animated fantasy film for children

George RR Martin’s short fantasy novel “The Ice Dragon” (released in 1980) is in development at the venerable Warner Bros. film studio. From the children’s story should a animated film will.

In “The Ice Dragon” the young girl becomes friends Adara with an ice dragon after her mother’s death. George RR Martin wrote on his blog back in 2015 that “The Ice Dragon” is NOT set in the world of “Game of Thrones” – although dragons appear in both stories.
