From next week – State of Styria will stop vaccination with Johnson & Johnson

The state of Styria will stop the corona vaccination with the vaccine from Johnson & Johnson from next week. The reason for this is that the information that this vaccine also needs a second vaccination did not reach the population. The vaccination coordinator continues to appeal to all Styrians to get vaccinated.

According to vaccination coordinator Michael Koren, 1,589,274 doses have been administered in Styria so far. “We are approaching the number of 815,000 first vaccinations, which results in a rate of over 65 percent of the population capable of vaccination. 778,320 people have been given a second vaccination, well over 62 percent. We are particularly proud of the third-party immunization rate. Thanks to the cooperation with nursing homes and dialysis stations, we have 33,237 third doses, which is second in a comparison of the federal states. “

“Not the Ferrari among vaccines”
Koren also announced, analogous to the federal decision on Thursday, that Johnson & Johnson will probably no longer be used as a primary vaccine from next week. “Some still believe it’s the Ferrari of the vaccines and it helps forever, but unfortunately that’s not the case,” said Koren.

In addition, the population did not understand that this vaccine does not only need one dose: “Like other vaccines, Johnson & Johnson needs the second booster vaccination after 28 days, and the population still does not understand that this is the case and that is why the federal government recommends that Johnson & Johnson no longer be contaminated. ”Pfizer / Biontech and Moderna will then be offered.

Appeal to vaccinators
The deputy head of the State Office Directorate, Wolfgang Wlattnig, made an “appeal to the vaccinators to follow the exemplary attitude of the older generation.” There are already over 20,485 third stitches in the age group over 80 years. “The third vaccination has the power to help break the fourth wave of Corona in older people, because their immune protection decreases faster,” said Wlattnig.

More free vaccination days
He regretted the declining weekly vaccination numbers “despite countless low-threshold measures. We mainly administer third stitches, although vaccinations are made everywhere in Styria. ”According to Wlattnig, the national holiday, October 26th, is also a free vaccination day, so far there have been great success with free vaccinations, over 60,000 stitches are there got together.
