From Tesla – Porsche Taycan regains Nordschleife record

At Porsche, you can’t let yourself be pulled away from Tesla. And so a performance package was quickly put together for the Taycan so that it could recapture the Nordschleife for the people from Zuffenhausen. Mission accomplished: The souped-up Taycan Turbo S took a good two seconds off the Tesla Model S Plaid.

Works driver Lars Kern crossed the finish line in 7:33.350 minutes, setting a new record for standard electric cars on the entire 20.832-kilometer Nürburgring circuit. It reached a top speed of 268 km/h. The sports sedan was equipped with the new performance kit and the special equipment Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC). Except for the mandatory roll cage and racing bucket seats, the record-breaking car was unchanged from the production version. The vehicle weight corresponded to that of the production car. A notary who was present certified the new best value, and TÜV Rheinland certified the standard condition of the record-breaking car. The performance kit includes 21-inch RS Spyder design wheels with street-legal Pirelli P Zero Corsa sports tires, which are now also available for the Taycan. The rubber compound is similar to that of racing tyres. Another component of the performance kit is a software update of the Porsche 4D-Chassis Control that is tailored to the sports tires. This analyzes and synchronizes all chassis systems in the Taycan in real time. Nothing changes in the performance of up to 460 kW/625 hp. With activated launch control, a maximum of 560 kW (761 hp) can be called up from a standing start. Performance kit only for Germany The performance kit is sold by Porsche Tequipment. It is initially only available in Germany and exclusively for the Taycan Turbo S sedan, model year 2023. These vehicles have been in production since the end of July 2022. The performance kit itself should be available by the end of the year. Retrofitting after the first delivery in the Porsche workshops is planned in Zuffenhausen. The transports to and from the headquarters are included as well as individual acceptance and approval of the Taycan. The price for the performance kit is 13,377.32 euros including 19 percent VAT. The Taycan’s factory warranty remains fully intact. The sports tire is primarily designed for driving on circuits. Buyers can therefore switch back to standard tires at any time. In this case, there is no need to restore the original chassis software. The Tesla record Lars Kern reclaimed his own record. In a pre-series model of the Taycan Turbo, he set a time of 7:42 minutes on the long version of the track, which is slightly shorter at 20.6 kilometers. Almost a year ago, a Tesla Model S Plaid managed 7:35,579 minutes on the entire route. It reached a top speed of 279 km/h.
