From this Monday, France no longer consumes French fish


Although a maritime power, France has consumed, from this Monday, May 2, all the fish and seafood products from its waters.

This theoretical observation was made by the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC), an organization that labels products from aquaculture that are more responsible for the environment and society.

According to this study, France only produces a third of the seafood it consumes.

The French, they would consume more than 30 kilos of fish per year. A figure well above the European average, which stands at 21.6 kg.

A favored type of fish

This overconsumption is also explained by the taste of the French. As La Dépêche reports, smoked salmon would be particularly preferred.

However, there is only one salmon farm in France. The market is therefore mainly based on imports.

It should be noted that other species would be affected by the massive importation due to consumption by the French. This is the case of tuna, cod, or shrimp.
