Mila Kunis is hardly recognizable in this drama. The film is based on an article published in the Washington Post by Pultizer Prize-winning journalist Eli Saslow. The article “How’s Amanda? A story of truth, lies and an American addiction” is the complex story of heroin addict Amanda and her mother Libby. The story explores the cruel consequences of drug addiction and what it does to you and your loved ones.
Starting today, the gripping film “Four Good Days” is available on Amazon Prime Video. From October 10th, 2023 you can stream the dramatic story with Mila Kunis, which is based on true events. The film can also be streamed on Apple TV+ and YouTube for a fee.

On the verge of collapse, heroin addict Molly shows up at her mother Deb’s house looking for help. But the two have become estranged over the last few years due to their dependence. After several attempts at detoxification, a doctor offers Molly a monthly injection of an opioid antagonist, a powerful drug that prevents toxic substances from settling in the central nervous system. However, there’s a catch: Molly has to stay clean for four long, painful days to receive the treatment.
Mila Kunis (“Friends with Benefits”) takes on the role of Molly. At her side, Glenn Close (“Heart of Stone”) plays the role of her mother Deb. The film was directed by Rodrigo García (“Passengers”) and the screenplay was written by both Rodrigo García and the author of the article, Eli Saslow.
The American drug crisis
In 2016, the United States experienced a historic opioid epidemic: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimated that 350 people started using heroin every day, there were 4,105 emergency room visits, and 79 deaths. The relapse rate for heroin has been reported in various studies to be up to 97 percent.
According to media reports, drug overdoses are now the leading cause of injury-related deaths in the United States – worse than firearms, car accidents or suicides. Heroin abuse has quadrupled in the last decade. Most addicts turn to heroin through prescription painkillers, and doctors now write more than 200 million prescriptions for opioids each year.
How is Amanda?
In 2023, Amanda Wendler (her story this film is based on) has been clean for 6 years. She and her mother, Libby Alexander, now advocate for addicts and their families. In an interview with the news channel FOX, Wendler said “My life is beautiful today” and addressed the stigma of addicts in order to destroy any doubt that they can recover.
