Front surprise – electric Ford F-150: enormous what’s under the hood

Ford’s pick-up model F-150 has been at the forefront of the statistics for the world’s best-selling cars for decades. The electric version Lightning, which is now being presented in the USA and will officially launch on the US market at the beginning of 2022, is correspondingly symbolic. It offers a lot of space, a generous range and the price remains on the ground.

Outwardly, the Lightning looks almost like a conventionally powered F-150. A special rim and radiator grille design as well as the LED daytime running lights that run horizontally across the entire front of the vehicle are characteristic features. One would actually assume an engine behind the closed grille, but the pick-up actually hides a 400-liter storage space under the front hood, which also has sockets and USB ports.

180 kWh battery capacity?
Ford has integrated the drive and battery technology into the vehicle floor. Customers will be able to choose between two motor and two battery variants. The entry-level version offers a 318 kW / 432 PS strong all-wheel drive, alternatively 420 kW / 672 PS and 1050 Newton meters are possible. The top version allows the sprint to 100 km / h in under five seconds. Ford specifies the ranges of the two battery sizes as 370 and 480 kilometers, respectively. The US manufacturer does not provide any information about their energy content.

With alternating current, charging should be possible in around eight hours. Fast charging works with up to 150 kW. The charging process to 80 percent would be completed in a good 40 minutes. Based on this information, the size of the batteries is estimated in the US media to be up to 180 kWh.

For the time being, the Lightning will only be available in the version with a double cabin, which can accommodate up to five people. The workplace is digital and networked. A 12-inch display is used as the instrument cluster, and an up to 15.5-inch touchscreen in portrait format is possible for the infotainment system.

Ford has so far given the US net prices for the F-150 Lightning. The commercial vehicle version will start at around 33,000 euros, and prices for the XLT version will start at around 43,500 euros.
