Japanese manufacturer Fujifilm launched two new cameras and two lenses at its X-Summit event.
Last week, it was a party at Fujifilm. During its X-Summit 2024 event, organized in Sydney, the Japanese manufacturer unveiled two new cameras and just as many new lenses. Enough to renew its range after the launch, at the start of the year, of its retro-looking compact camera, the Fujifilm X100 VI.
As for the bodies, Fujifilm presented two new cameras with very different positioning on May 16, the small Fujifilm X-T50 with an APS-C sensor and the large Fujifilm GFX 100S II with a medium format sensor.
Fujifilm X-T50: A small, easy-to-access camera at a reasonable price
As for the X-T50, Fujifilm has in fact taken the main characteristics of the Fujifilm grams — compared to 12.95 x 9.1 x 6.38 cm and a weight of 476 grams for the X-T5.
The device is equipped with a 40.2 million pixel sensor in APS-C format capable of managing an increase in sensitivity from ISO 125 to 12,800 – ISO 25,600 in extended mode. It also benefits from mechanical stabilization on five axes allowing a gain of 7 stops. We will also find a tilting LCD touch screen as well as an Oled viewfinder displaying 2.36 million points. Concerning the shutter speed, the camera can go, with the mechanical shutter, up to 1/4000 s, and with the electronic shutter, up to 1/180,000 s. The burst is not to be outdone with up to 20 frames per second using the electronic shutter.
For video, the box can record files up to 6.2K definition at 30p in 4:2:2 10-bit or up to Full HD at 240p.
It is especially on its film simulations that the X-T50 places emphasis, with a dedicated wheel. It must be said that the manufacturer comes from film and has succeeded, over the years, in offering effects that are particularly appreciated by its users. Enough to capture particularly neat JPG images, reproducing the appearance of images captured on film.
For the first time, Fujifilm has integrated a dial into its case, dedicated specifically to the choice of film simulations. Eight simulations are therefore automatically offered, while three others can be personalized according to the user’s tastes.
The Fujfilm X-T50 will be available in France from June 17 at the price of 1,499 euros without lens. It will also be offered as a kit with a 15-45 mm lens (f/3.5-5.6) at 1599 euros and with a 16-50 mm lens (f/2.8-4.8) at 1899 euros.
Fujifilm GFX 100S II: a large body with a medium format sensor
For its part, the GFX 100S II logically takes over from the GFX 100S launched at the end of 2021. It is therefore a much more imposing body, since it is equipped with a 102 million pixel medium format sensor. The GFX 100S II also offers five-axis stabilization allowing a gain of eight stops, while its sensitivity can vary from ISO 80 to 12,800 – ISO 40 to 102,400 in extended mode.
If image quality is the strong point of medium format cameras, the Fujifilm GFX 100S II also has no reason to be ashamed of its performance with a shutter speed that can go up to 1/16,000 s in electronic shutter . The burst is also approaching full frame references with 7 images per second in mechanical shutter. For video, however, you will have to settle for a C4K definition at 30p in 4:2:2 10 bits.
As in recent years, Fujifilm seeks above all to democratize medium format cameras with an even more attractive price. The device will be offered for sale from June 17 at a price of 5,499 euros without lens. We are therefore below the prices of the best cameras with a 24-36 mm sensor such as the Sony A9 III at 6,999 euros, the Sony A1 at 7,299 euros or the Nikon Z9 at 5,999 euros.
Two new lenses for Fujifilm cameras
In addition to these two cameras, Fujifilm also presented two new photo lenses: a Fujinon 500mm f/5.6 telephoto lens, 396mm equivalent, for its medium format bodies, and a new 16-50mm f/2.8 zoom lens. -4.8, 24-76 mm equivalent for its APS-C cameras.
The medium format lens will be offered on June 17 at a price of 3,899 euros, while the APS-C lens will be launched on May 28 at 799 euros.
