Fujinon GF20-35mmF4 R WR: a first ultra-wide-angle zoom lens for medium format Fuji

Currently, Fujifilm only has 4 zoom lenses for its GFX series medium format bodies. The Fujinon GF20-35mmF4 R WR arrives to meet the needs of photographers looking for a very wide-angle zoom. Fujifilm does not neglect APS-C enthusiasts with a new Fujifilm X-H2 body accompanied by a fixed focal length XF 56mmF1.2 R WR.

An ultra wide-angle for medium format

With its focal range from 20mm to 35mm, this zoom becomes Fujifilm’s widest angle lens for its medium format cameras, ahead of the fixed focal length GF 23mm F4 R LM WR. The Fujifilm medium format having a conversion ratio of 1.7, this gives a focal length equivalent to a 16-28 mm when mounted on a hybrid like the GFX 100S. The lens remains compact, announced at 725 grams for 112.5 mm in length, integrating an 82 mm filter holder.

On the optical formula side, this pebble has 14 lenses divided into 10 groups comprising 3 low dispersion (ED) lenses, 3 aspherical lenses and an aspherical ED lens. The aperture is constant at F/4 over the entire zoom range.

Obviously, this compact zoom for medium format mirrorless is tropicalized, allowing backpackers to take it everywhere thanks to its 12 seals, its fluorine treatment protecting the front lens from water and dirt, allowing use in all weathers.

Price and availability

Owners of GFX 100S or GFX 50S will have to wait until the end of September to equip themselves with this UGA zoom lens and offload €2,799.
