To mark the end of the long, very long FSD (Full Self Driving) beta period, Tesla has decided to lower the prices of the monthly subscription offered to access its “supervised” autonomous driving technology.
As you probably know, Tesla has formalized the end of the FSD beta period that began several years ago now. For the occasion, the manufacturer has chosen to open access to its autonomous driving technology to all American Tesla owners for two weeks.
A great opportunity for those who want to try the functionality and see the progress made during these years of development and updates. But above all, users will be able to determine if investment in FSD is worth it or not. As a reminder, autonomous driving technology is accessible in the United States in two ways: either by directly adding the optional FSD at the time of purchase of the vehicle in exchange for $12,000, or by opting for a monthly subscription billed at 200 dollars per month.
Tesla halves FSD subscription price
Whatever option is chosen, the amounts remain significant and potentially dissuasive. Tesla finally understood this. Indeed, the company confirmed in a publication on this April 12, 2024 a significant reduction in the price of the monthly subscription for the FSD. For good reason, the bill was halved! From now on, subscription to the FSD is offered at €99 per month in the United States and Canadathe only two countries where the technology is officially available.
Remember that this price drop occurs while the FSD has just been upgraded to version v12. This version is based on complete control by neural network, which results in better execution of the most complex maneuvers. The first feedback from users on social networks was clear, the FSD clearly no longer having difficulty managing difficult situations (turns with a narrow field of vision, changing lanes and merging onto expressways, etc.). Driving is also described as smoother by the majority of testerss (gradual accelerations, less abrupt braking, etc.).
Let’s conclude by mentioning that FSD is still not available in France. If there is indeed a Fully Autonomous Driving Capacity option on Tesla’s French configurator (displayed at €7,500), this option actually includes all the features of the basic Autopilot and its improved version, as well as recognizing and reacting to traffic lights and stop signs. In France, the first advanced autonomous driving systems could land on our roads by the end of 2024.
