Fundraising for Ukraine is a hit on Fortnite

On Fortnite, players have been more than generous in helping the Ukrainian people. Epic Games has announced that it has already raised more than $36 million for associations such as UNICEF and the Refugee Agency.

Solidarity is not dead on social networks or on video game platforms. Epic Games has unveiled the sum of 36 million dollars, collected in just 24 hours for Ukraine. The publisher of the Fortnite video game had announced that it would donate all of the sums of purchases collected on the platform to humanitarian associations helping the Ukrainian people. An operation that will last only two weeks. In place since March 20, it will end on April 3.

This solidarity initiative, launched with the new season of the game called “Resistance”, immediately mobilized online players. These sums will be donated to four associations: UNICEF, Direct Relief, the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) and the World Food Program (WFP).

Epic Games had even assured that the donations would be donated as quickly as possible, without even waiting to receive the money directly: “As fast as possible. We don’t wait for actual funds to arrive from our platform and payment partners, which can take a while depending on how the transaction was processed. As the transactions are reported, we register them and send the funds to aid organizations within days”said the video game publisher on its blog.

Microsoft will also donate net profits from purchases made on the Microsoft Store, Epic Games said. Other initiatives have also raised money to help the Ukrainian people since the Russian invasion. For example, 25 million dollars had been collected in cryptocurrencies at the beginning of March.
