No matter what I earn per month, I survive , I do not live”protests a Briton, when another confides: “I am struggling to pay my gas and electricity bill, which is ten times more expensive than usual. This money could have been spent on making electricity cheaper. It is not fair. Impossible to lose a day of work”.

2,000 guests expected at the funeral of Elizabeth II

It must be said that this funeral promises to be grandiose. Not less than 300 dignitaries from all over the world all converged on London, this Sunday, September 18, 2022. Joe Biden, Emmanuel Macron, the Prince of Spain, or even the Brazilian President were present. To these, it will be necessary to add 1,700 guests within Westminster Abbey. A symbolic place since it is here that Queen Elizabeth II was crowned in 1953. The funeral should start at 11:00 a.m. (French time) and will be led by the Dean of Westminster, David Hoyle. The sermon will be delivered by Archbishop Canterbury Justin Welby. Following this hour-long ceremony, the national anthem will sound. The coffin will then be pulled up to Wellington Arch in Hyde Park. Placed in the royal hearse to take the direction of Windsor, the coffin will be visible to spectators. At 4:30 p.m., the King, Charles III and members of the Royal Family will join the procession on foot.

Funerals broadcast live throughout the Kingdom

It is at 5:00 p.m. that the funeral ceremony will begin at the Saint-Georges chapel, in the presence of the Windsors but also of the 15 Prime Ministers of the Commonwealth countries. 45 minutes later, the coffin will be lowered into the royal crypt. In the evening, a private ceremony will be held at the King George VI Memorial in St. George’s Chapel. Queen Elizabeth II will be reunited with her husband, Prince Philip, who died in April 2021. The funeral will be broadcast on giant screens and in cinemas across the country.
