Funeral of Jean-Pierre Pernaut: “he did not lack courage”, the heartbreaking text read by Dominique Lagrou-Sempère


Journalist Dominique Lagrou Sempere shared a moving message on Wednesday March 9 in tribute to her friend Jean-Pierre Pernaut. They had worked together on the 13H news from TF1 for 20 years, from 2001 to 2021.

“I told you everything on Sunday, before leaving you for the last time. I am relieved knowing that you are too now.” The evening of the funeral Jean-Pierre Pernauthis sidekick and journalist Dominique Lagrou Sempere shared a heartbreaking message. A message that testifies to his friendship and his strong ties that they had woven over the years, working together from 2001 to 2021 on the JT of 13H of TF1. “Soothed. That’s what I keep of your beautiful sleeping face”writes the journalist again in a message shared on Wednesday March 9 on her Twitter account.

Dominique Lagrou Sempere remembers their years of collaboration on TF1, but also the hard knocks. The death of her husband Claude following cancerin 2019, through which Jean-Pierre Pernaut had supported herensuring his presence at the funeral of the father of his two children in Villa d’Avray. “He didn’t take his eyes off my daughter and my son, no matter how tears were streaming down his face”, can we still read. An empathy, but also a strength that his former sidekick particularly underlined.Jean-Pierre did not lack courage, even if it is true that he told me, not very long ago, that he had been ‘very stupid’ for not having quit smoking sooner. Not brave…”can we still read.

An unprecedented relationship between Pernaut and its audience

The funeral of Jean-Pierre Pernaut took place in the Basilica of Sainte-Clotilde in Paris on Wednesday March 9. His wife NOTathalie marquay, as well as her 4 children, appeared united. For more than 30 years, the journalist had presented the daily 1 p.m. news from TF1, forever entering the hearts of the French. French people present for this final goodbye, near the church.
