Everything has subscriptions these days, so why not furniture too? Ikea wants to answer exactly this question and has invested in the Danish start-up Nornorm. With a sustainable rental of office furniture, one would like to attack in Germany.

Nornorm also has the home office in mind, because the prices are only based on the office space. In addition to a one-time fee of 15 euros per square meter, there is also a monthly furniture rental of three euros per square meter.

Rent furniture with an app and algorithms

Nornorm itself takes care of that Design of the offices with own algorithms. For customers, the administration runs via app. There is no notice period – if you don’t like it, Nornorm will collect the furniture within 90 days and rent it out somewhere else.

For Ikea, Nornorm represents a “foot in the door of the B2B market”, as explained by Ikea CFO Martin van Dam (source: t3n). Whether the furniture subscription later too directly in the furniture stores will be offered has not yet been determined.
