This is Furoshiki

As the name suggests, Furoshiki comes from Japan. There are hidden behind the term square fabric towels in different colors and sizes, which are used to wrap clothes and other things to make them easier to store or transport – in a practical and attractive way. This makes it easy to pack many things and get them from A to B.

And the nice thing is: The method is ideal for wrapping gifts!

The material for the gift towels varies depending on what the fabric is to be used for. This can be silk (or imitation silk), cotton, viscose or something else. Main thing, it folds well. This is suitable for heavier things, e.g. B. a cotton cloth is better than one made of silk.

You can also fold the cloths in different ways. Furoshiki offers so many possibilities:

Furoshiki has many advantages: you can use it to avoid plastic bags when shopping and transport your fruit from the market or bottles from the supermarket more easily – but you can also replace wrapping paper.

So if you no longer have wrapping paper at home or are looking for an alternative to paper, then Furoshiki is just the thing! In the video we show you two simple instructions on how to

All you need is a cloth of the right size. The squares of the furoshiki often have a size of 70×70 cm and 100×100 cm. For larger or smaller gifts, use different dimensions for the gift packaging.

Furoshiki: instructions for the folding technique

In the video we showed you how you can easily fold the gift towels. Here we have summarized the steps for packing for you.

Instructions for packing a box with furoshiki

  1. Spread the cloth out completely. The side that should ultimately be visible on the outside is facing downwards.
  2. Place your box in the middle.
  3. Take a corner and fold it over the box and then under it.
  4. Now grab the opposite side and fold it over the box too.
  5. Now there are two corners on the sides: tie them tightly over the gift.

Packing a bottle with furoshiki: a quick guide

  1. Spread the cloth out completely. The side that should ultimately be visible on the outside is facing downwards.
  2. Place the bottle in the middle.
  3. Tie two opposite corners together over the bottle.
  4. Then grab the other two open corners, wrap them around the bottle and knot them together.
  5. Take the ends of the top knot (from step 3) and tie a double knot at the top – the handle is ready!
