HSV misses a great opportunity

Hamburger SV remains undefeated for the eighth time in a row, but the league leaders missed an important signal in the promotion of the 2nd Bundesliga. Fürth, on the other hand, continues to climb, while Osnabrück has to look down. There Braunschweig is cheering and Würzburg is in despair.

VfL Osnabrück – SpVgg Greuther Fürth 0: 1 (0: 1)

SpVgg Greuther Fürth has stopped its winning streak and has climbed back to the promotion relegation place in the 2nd Bundesliga. After three games in a row without a threesome, coach Stefan Leitl's team deservedly won 1-0 (1-0) at VfL Osnabrück. The former Munich and Stuttgart Julian Green (38th) scored with his sixth goal of the season for the guests. For Osnabrück it was the sixth home defeat in a row and the fourth bankruptcy in a row. With 22 points the Lower Saxony stay eleventh.

The strong away team from Fürth, who had only left the field as a loser in one of the last 17 league appearances, started boldly. On the first good chance Dickson headed Abiama over the gate (15th). The 22-year-old Nigerian, who had played in the district class until 2018, made his starting line-up debut with the Kleebl Blätter.

Green did better shortly before the break from close range after a nice combination. A little later (44th), the 25-year-old hit the inside post. Even after the break, Fürth was the better team. The best options he had conspicuous Abiama. First he shot over the goal (57th), then the bar saved Osnabrück (70th).

Eintracht Braunschweig – 1.FC Heidenheim 1: 0 (1: 0)

Eintracht Braunschweig has ended its negative run and at least temporarily left the relegation places. Lower Saxony celebrated their first win since the beginning of December in a 1-0 (1-0) win against 1. FC Heidenheim and improved to 15th place. Braunschweig had not won the last seven games in the league. Marcel Bär (34.) ensured the end of this series with his goal. He benefited from a mistake by Marnon Busch, who played the ball right into the feet of the Brunswick in an unsuccessful rescue attempt. Heidenheim, who has only won once in nine away games, threatens to lose sight of the top positions after the sixth defeat of the season.

With icy wind and snow flurries, a competitive game developed from the start without any playful highlights. After the opening goal, Braunschweig was closer to the second goal. Nick Proschwitz (37th) was still disturbed at the end of the game, and FCH goalkeeper Kevin Müller parried a free kick from Felix Kroos (40th). After the break, substitute Marc Schnatterer gave the guests more momentum. With a long-range shot and several good standards, he created a goal hazard. Braunschweig held against it with a lot of effort, but hardly provided any relief.

Fortuna Düsseldorf – Hamburger SV (0-0)

Hamburger SV keeps the longed-for Bundesliga return in its sights. The table leader did not get past a 0-0 at Fortuna Düsseldorf and thus awarded a big point. However, the first round champion kept the cushion on the equally strong rival from the Rhine and thus on a non-promotion place with reassuring five points. The two traditional clubs offered second division football worth seeing in terms of football and tactics and underlined why they are fighting for a return to the Bundesliga. The defensive rows dominated the action, especially in the second half.

The red pants let the ball run skillfully and penetrated dangerously into the Düsseldorf penalty area, especially through Sonny Kittel and Jeremy Dudziak. However, they did not find their striker Simon Terodde (17 goals this season), who had decided the first leg against his ex-club (2-1) with a brace.

Even with a bit of luck, Fortuna prevented worse things until the break, despite blatantly less possession of the ball. The first – albeit less dangerous – shot on goal was even recorded by Kevin Danso in Düsseldorf in the 45th minute. After the change of sides, things flattened out noticeably. Both teams seemed to be able to live with the draw and the extension of their series – HSV had previously been unbeaten seven times, Düsseldorf eight times.

Erzgebirge Aue – Würzburger Kickers 2: 1 (0: 0)

For the Würzburger Kickers, the fight to stay in the league is getting thin. Without the suspended head coach Bernhard Trares, the bottom of the table lost 2-1 (0-0) at the by no means convincing FC Erzgebirge Aue despite leading. The ex-Auer Ridge Munsy (52nd) scored for the guests, who still held the red lantern with nine points. Aue, who turned the game through Florian Krüger (78th) and Florian Ballas (85th), can orientate himself upwards with 28 points.

The guests acted bravely and had the best opportunities before the break with Marvin Pieringer (26th) and Munsy (39th). Aue only woke up after the Würzburg tour and became increasingly dangerous – in the end with success. Trares was represented in Aue by his assistant Benjamin Sachs. The DFB had ex-professional Trares after his red card on Saturday at SC Paderborn (0: 1) because of unsporting behavior and unsporting remarks to the referee team with an indoor ban.
