Futurama: after 10 years of absence, the crazy series is finally back (and with a teaser)!

The Hulu platform revives Futurama ten years after season 7 with a date and a first teaser!

We told you about it a little over a year ago: the animated series Futurama will be making a comeback after its finale in 2013. This is a second revival for Matt Groening’s series, which has already experienced a hiatus between 2003 and 2007.

First broadcast on FOX, a general public network, it then returned to Comedy Central, a pay channel focused on comedy programs.

It is now the Hulu streaming platform that is giving him a third chance. The new episodes of the sci-fi animated series will start on July 24 on the American platform, for what is officially season 8.

The 10 episodes will be broadcast on a weekly basis. Hulu ordered a total of 20 episodes in February 2022 and has just released a first teaser which you can see above.

This is the second time the series has returned to the limelight since its launch in 1999. After an initial four-season salvo on Fox, reruns of the series have found new life on Cartoon Network and on DVD. .

Four live-to-video films were then produced, then re-released to form a fifth season that aired on Comedy Central beginning in 2008. And Comedy Central then aired two more seasons of 26 episodes each between 2010 and 2013. Are you following?

What is Futurama?

For those unfamiliar with the Futurama universe, the animated adult sitcom follows Philip Fry, a 25-year-old pizza delivery boy who is accidentally frozen on New Year’s Eve 1999 and wakes up 1,000 years later.

The plot of the series focuses on his life as he makes a fresh start with a new group of friends. If you’re already a fan of The Simpsons and other Matt Groening series, you’ll definitely love Futurama.

There’s comedy, sci-fi, and plenty of eccentric elements unique to the creator that never go out of style. But since this revival is a continuation of previous chapters, you might want to catch up on past seasons, all of which are available to stream on Disney+, but with another 10-season cut. The specialists are torn on the question but the main thing is that all the episodes are present.

According to the official synopsis for the new season, “new viewers will be able to pick up the series from here, while longtime fans will recognize the unravelings of decades-old mysteries – including developments in Fry and Leela’s epic love story, mysterious content from Nibbler’s litter box, the secret history of evil robot Santa, and the whereabouts of Kif and Amy’s tadpoles.

Meanwhile, a new pandemic is raging in town, and the team explores the future of vaccines, bitcoin, cancel culture, and streaming TV.“.

Original series cast Billy West, Katey Sagal, Tress MacNeille, Maurice LaMarche, Lauren Tom, Phil LaMarr and David Herman. John DiMaggio, who is best known for his Bender voice, was initially not part of the new episodes, but he announced he was joining them in March 2022.

Matt Groening created the series and developed it with David X. Cohen. Both are executive producers with Ken Keeler and Claudia Katz. Rough Draft Studios provides animation, while 20th Television Animation is the studio behind the series.

For now, we don’t have a release date in France. But the Hulu series being regularly broadcast on the territory via Disney +, the formalization should be imminent.
