Netflix series BoJack Horseman director Mike Hollingsworth is producing an animated series spin-off based on the Golden Girls. His new series “Golden Girls 3033” can be seen exclusively on the YouTube channel of the US magazine “IndieWire”.
Here is the 5 minute episode:
The new edition “Golden Girls 3033” follows the women’s flat share around Blanche Devereaux (Rue McClanahan), Rose Nylund (Betty White), Dorothy Zbomak (Bea Arthur) and Sophia Petrillo (Estelle Getty). The four women drank from a fountain of youth, which is why they are now immortal.
In the pilot of the animated series, the girls go about their normal lives just like they did in the original sitcom. Due to the futuristic setting of “Golden Girls 3033”, however, a lot has changed. Rose is now a robot and Dorothy’s ex-husband Stan (Herb Edelman) has become a green tentacle alien.
Since all of the cast of the original series “Golden Girls” have passed away, producer Hollingsworth will not be hiring new voice actors for the characters. Instead, he uses the original soundtrack from “Golden Girls”. According to the plot, he cuts the soundtracks from over 180 episodes together to match the events.
The sitcom “Golden Girls” aired on NBC from 1985 to 1992. The German first broadcast of the series took place in 1990 in the late evening program in the first. Since 2021, all seven seasons can be viewed on the streaming provider Disney +. The 80s series was nominated for a total of 75 awards and won coveted prizes in 35 categories. Including two Golden Globes and three Emmys.
