Future at Bayern: Kahn speaks plainly to Lewandowski and Haaland

Future at FC Bayern
Kahn speaks plain text to Lewandowski and Haaland

In an interview, Oliver Kahn talks about Robert Lewandowski’s contract situation. The CEO of FC Bayern has a clear goal, but also keeps an eye on the “player’s situation”. Kahn admits “two very difficult years” – which has an impact on a possible Haaland transfer.

The future of world footballer Robert Lewandowski with record champion Bayern Munich remains open. CEO Oliver Kahn reiterated, however, that Lewandowski “as of today has a contract for next season”. But according to Kahn, “the situation of the player” must also be seen, who has achieved everything at FC Bayern and is therefore “thinking about the future”, said Kahn in the “double pass” at Sport1.

“It then takes longer to convince a player. And the financial aspect also plays a role,” added Kahn. The club is in contact with Lewandowski: “We want him to stay at Bayern as long as possible,” affirmed the former world-class goalkeeper.

At Bayern there is not only unrest because of the sensitive Champions League end in the quarterfinals against FC Villarreal, the contracts of the top performers Lewandowski, Manuel Neuer, Thomas Müller and Serge Gnabry expire in the summer of 2023.

Haaland too expensive?

Lewandowski was recently linked again with a move to FC Barcelona. The club is “in exchange” with Gnabry, Kahn also confirmed. As a possible successor to Lewandowski, Kahn has meanwhile again ruled out a commitment by Dortmund’s exceptional striker Erling Haaland. The complete Haaland package is “very far away from what we imagine,” especially financially,” said Kahn. Against the background of contract talks, he also referred to the financial losses during the corona pandemic. “We’ve had two very, very difficult years,” he admitted.

Despite the surprising CL exit, the board boss showed a clear edge about the future of coach Julian Nagelsmann: “We are totally convinced of Julian, he knows what is important to us and we are going on this path with full conviction,” said Kahn, whose club followed the early cup-out in Gladbach “only” the tenth German championship in a row remains.
