G2 Gozen Women’s Team Wins VALORANT Worlds

As a nod to the chaotic end of the G2 men’s season, Gozen has restored the club’s image on the international scene, thanks to the women’s structure which won the world title.

A snub to the G2 season? As the structure said goodbye to its iconic ocelote boss, accused of teaming up with an influencer deemed sexist and misogynisticjust days after the launch of its women’s team on League of Legends, the club had paid heavily for the controversy, losing a slot on the new international VALORANT scene, thus forcing itself to put an end to its men’s team. So there was only … the female roster left to make the structure shine on the esports scene of Riot’s game.

And it’s good G2 Gozen who won the final of the World Championships in Berlin this weekend during the Game Changers Championship. The girls of G2 had finished in second place in the EMEA season points standings, but qualified for the final tournament as Guild X had already picked up the slot via Split 3. Alongside other big names like Cloud9 White, Team Liquid Brazil or KRÜ Fem, there was competition.

G2 Gozen had a favorable draw for the start of the playoffs with X10 Sapphire, champions of the APAC region. In the semi-finals, it was more difficult to dispose of girls from C9 (1/2), which opened the door to the final of the upper bracket against TL (2/0) then the grand finale against Shopify Rebellion GC, the points champion of the NA Tour. After leaving the first two rounds of the battle to his opponent, G2 Gozen wins 3/2 and lifts his first international title.

The Game Changers will return in 2023 into the new VALORANT ecosystem with arguably more female teams committed to the annual circuit.
