NUSA DUA, Indonesia, July 16 (Reuters) – Indonesia on Saturday urged G20 finance ministers to focus on global recovery goals, with sources saying the summit on the island of Bali is set to end without an official press release being published.
Several senior Western officials, including US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, on Friday condemned the war in Ukraine, criticizing Russian officials for the dramatic economic fallout from the conflict.
Ukrainian Finance Minister Serhiy Marchenko spoke by videoconference, calling for “tougher and more targeted sanctions” against Russia.
Indonesian central bank governor Perry Warjiyo said on Saturday that participants had had productive discussions but the G20 needed to come up with concrete results to support the global economy.
“It is important that we remain focused on the goals we have set out to achieve this year, which will also send a positive message to the international community about the role of the G20 and the efforts being made to support global recovery,” he said. he said.
Western sources warned earlier in the week that it would be difficult to agree on a joint statement.
