The G7 is currently bringing together the leaders of the seven Western economic powers in Hiroshima, Japan. The Ukrainian president is preparing to join the summit this Saturday to try to convince neutral states to position themselves against Russia, within the framework of the war in Ukraine.

This Saturday morning, the Ukrainian president is on board an A330 from the French Republic, heading for Hiroshima, where the G7 summit is being held. According to a diplomatic source, it was during his meeting with Emmanuel Macron at the Elysee Palace last Sunday evening that he asked to be able to attend the international event.

An initiative supported by France. The cost of the flight is borne by the French State and this plane made available also allowed Volodymyr Zelensky to go to the Arab League summit in Saudi Arabia this Friday. “It’s proof of trust between France and Ukraine,” says an adviser to Emmanuel Macron.

One-on-one with Joe Biden

The entourage of the French president considers that this trip is very important, because unlike an intervention by videoconference initially planned, Volodymyr Zelensky will have the opportunity to exchange directly with the heads of state and government.

He must meet one-on-one with US President Joe Biden, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Emmanuel Macron. Above all, he should participate in the dinner of the leaders this evening. And above all, this arrival will be an opportunity for the Ukrainian president to plead his case with Brazil, Indonesia and even India. These emerging countries, invited on the sidelines of the G7, still refuse to impose sanctions against Russia.
